Oh I am digging the needles in deep, I know! I think I take a perverse delight in seeing how much I can mess with their minds. I'd feel bad if it wasn't so much fun...
And you are quite right. We have the tendency to think the worst of ourselves sometimes, and Jensen especially is lacking in self esteem. He's nowhere near as bad as he thinks he is - that kiss and compassion, for example - but he does very quickly lump himself in with the likes of Lee, who IS damaged well past the point of no return.
